What is dog agility?

Dog agility is a sport in which a handler is given a set amount of time in which to direct a dog through an obstacle course without a leash. The handler is only limited to voice, movement, and body signals. The scoring system is based on faults and the time it takes to complete the course.

Typical dog agility courses include but not limited to: jumps, contact obstacles, weave poles, tunnels and pause tables.

Due to the number of obstacles and possible faults, there are many classes that one can play during an agility field.

  • Relay

Dogs are not separated by breed but by height at the peak of their shoulders.

  • Some agility equipment is meant for different size dogs. It is imperative that you know your dog’s size, speed, and weight. Knowing your dog’s dimensions will help you buy the appropriate equipment.
  • Age

  • A lot of agility equipment is meant for younger and healthier dogs. Never force your dog to do something that might harm him. The last thing you want to do is hurt your beloved pet.
